ERTRAC is the European Technology Platform (ETP) for Road Transport recognized and supported by the European Commission.

ERTRAC has more than 50 members, representing all the actors of the Road Transport System: transport industry, European associations, EU Member States, local authorities, European Commission services, etc.

The ERTRAC Plenary
The ERTRAC Plenary gathers all the ERTRAC members, meeting three times a year. It is responsible for establishing the strategic orientations of ERTRAC, ensuring a shared vision from all the Road Transport stakeholders. In this respect, the Plenary adopts the ERTRAC documents, and decides on the strategic approaches for the technology platform.

The ERTRAC Steering Group
The ERTRAC Steering Group is the management group responsible for the organisation of the work flow within ERTRAC, such as the preparation of the documents, the planning of events, and other organisational issues. The Steering Group is responsible for proposing and planning these activities in response to the orientations decided by the Plenary. It meets three times a year.

The ERTRAC Executive Group
The ERTRAC Executive Group is formed by the Chairman and the Vice-Chairmen. It is responsible for the daily decision-making of the technology platform and takes all necessary decisions for its functioning in between the Plenary and Steering Group assemblies. The members of the Executive Group represent ERTRAC in public events and consultation bodies. They chair the Plenary and Steering Group assemblies.

The ERTRAC Working Groups
The ERTRAC Working Groups consist of experts coming from the ERTRAC members, responsible for the preparation of the ERTRAC documents such as the Scenario, the Strategic Research Agenda and the research roadmaps. The Working Groups are managed and chaired by Working Group Leaders, selected from the ERTRAC members. Workshops are organized on a regular basis, with the possibility to invite external experts. Currently, there are 5 Working Groups:

  • Urban Mobility

  • Long Distance Freight Transport

  • Energy & Environment

  • Road Transport Safety & Security

  • Global Competitiveness


  • In addition, Expert Groups or Task Forces can be created on an Ad Hoc basis. For the moment, there is one Expert Group on "Enabling Technologies".

    The ERTRAC Secretariat
    The ERTRAC Secretariat is responsible for the daily management of the technology platform, such as the organisation of the meetings and the preparation of the communication activities. It reports directly to the Executive Group, and assists all the bodies of ERTRAC.

    The ERTRAC Supporting Institutions Group
    The ERTRAC Supporting Institutions Group (ERTRAC SIG) is a non-profit association, legally established, supporting ERTRAC by financing its activities (office, secretariat costs, meetings and events costs, etc.).
