Eurobitume Webinar: Decarbonisation Roadmap for Bitumen

Eurobitume recently published the roadmap "Decarbonisation Roadmap for Bitumen", which sets out a collective ambition and a credible pathway to reduce cradle-to-gate GHG emissions associated with bitumen production. On 9 September, a webinar will take place with an open Q&A, to present the roadmap and discuss its key findings.

The roadmap reflects Eurobitume’s and its members’ commitment to supporting the decarbonisation of road construction and asphalt production. It outlines how the bitumen industry can contribute to broader European climate and sustainability objectives, while recognising both the opportunities and challenges linked to the transition. Importantly, the roadmap takes a pragmatic and realistic approach. It evaluates a credible pathway based on known and projected future adoption trajectories across the full range of potential decarbonisation levers, including process efficiency, electrification, low-carbon fuels, and upstream emissions reductions. The roadmap also highlights that collaboration across the value chain, together with supportive policy frameworks, will be essential to enable meaningful emissions reductions. Engagement with upstream actors, downstream partners, industry associations, and policymakers will therefore play a key role in turning the roadmap’s ambition into action.

This publication represents both a standalone milestone for the bitumen sector and the first phase of Eurobitume’s broader sustainability roadmap.
