Our CSA, STREnGth_M, is hosting an engaging webinar on 15 January 2025, organised in partnership with POLIS’ SMC Platform. Titled “Small size, big potential: Strengthening research and innovation ecosystems in SMCs”, the event will run from 10:00 to 11:30 CET.
Small and medium-sized cities (SMCs) have long been recognised as powerful testbeds for innovation, driving fresh research and piloting new solutions. But their scale can be a double-edged sword: while agility and adaptability are their strengths, limited funding and capacity often make it difficult to sustain research efforts. This is where targeted research projects and strong cross-sector collaboration can have a transformative effect.
Running from 2023 to 2026, the STREnGth_M project is focused on shaping future research priorities, identifying barriers to innovation uptake, and strengthening the links between European, national and international R&I activities. The webinar will highlight the crucial role SMCs play as living laboratories for research and innovation, and explore how lasting cooperation between academia, industry and civil society can be built. It will also demonstrate how STREnGth_M is developing the insights and frameworks needed to boost their impact and accelerate meaningful, scalable innovation.
Across 90 minutes, the programme will feature contributions from cities and key stakeholders, alongside findings and resources developed through the project.
