New ERTRAC Strategic Research Agenda for next European Research Programme FP10
ERTRAC has released its new Strategic Research Agenda (SRA), based on its Vision for the transport system in 2050, and highlighting the research and innovation priorities needed for this transformation. The SRA is intended to advise the 10th EU Framework Programme for Research, for the budget 2028 to 2034, and aims to help Europe lead in safe, sustainable and efficient mobility.
The SRA points out where research and innovation can have the most impacts:
- It stresses the importance of seamless mobility, with better integration between soft modes, public transport, shared mobility and private vehicles. This involves considering mobility solutions and infrastructures, but also data sharing, planning, and meeting the diverse needs of citizens across cities, suburbs, and rural areas.
- The agenda points to the role of new technologies, including Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM), as well as the better use of data and digital tools to improve road safety, strengthen resilience, and address cyber-security risks.
- For sustainability, the SRA calls for more research into zero-emission powertrains, renewable energies, circularity and recycling, and using materials and resources more efficiently.
- The SRA also stresses cross-cutting aspects such as Europe needing better cooperation at different regulatory levels, stronger training programmes to develop the high-level skills needed for the future workforce, and improved conditions to deliver more efficient Research and Innovation.
With this new Strategic Research Agenda, ERTRAC aims to help shape the future of European road transport research and to support the building of a more competitive and resilient transport system for people and goods.
